Pasta Day
Ramen-like pasta is popular especially in the northern regions of Madagascar. Starchy noodles piled up in little street food shops is a common sight. Recognizing a skills training opportunity, I invested in four pasta making machines and organized a pasta-making workshop.. We made enough pasta for all ninety kids and mixed in cans and cans of sardines. It was a big hit. The potential for marketing dried green noodles and multi-grain varieties simmers in the back of my mind.
Letter Quote:
“Our pasta making class was a great success, despite half of the eggs being rotten and me screaming at the smell to the boys amusement. I invited a staff member from Grandir Dignement to participate so he could carry on after we left, explaining to Rizvi how to make green noodles using moringa leaves. They already have a Thursday cooking class, so he is free to use the pasta making machines at any time. Next will be to experiment how to dry and package the noodles. Maybe in the future, we can give each interested kids a pasta making machine to start their own small business once they are released.”
